FILMS

In a series of hazy 8mm vignettes, accompanied by a soft, lilting voice over, the girls skulk around schoolyards, spray graffiti, drink, smoke, pose and embrace, evoking the loneliness, confusion and overwhelming wonder of growing up. Korine himself puts a more defiant spin on the film: “It’s about girls who sleep in abandoned cars and set things on fire. It’s about the great things in life. The stars in the sky and lots of malt liquor.”

A film unearthed from the buried landscape of the American nightmare,
TRASH HUMPERS follows a small group of elderly "Peeping Toms" through
the shadows and margins of an unfamiliar world. Crudely documented by
the participants themselves, we follow the debased and shocking actions
of a group of true sociopaths the likes of which have never been seen
before. Inhabiting a world of broken dreams and beyond the limits of
morality, they crash against a torn and frayed America. Bordering on
an ode to vandalism, it is a new type of horror – palpable and raw.

Joe Young was a simple young man trying to spread the word of the Book of Mormon when he picked the wrong house to preach at! The owner, a porn director named Maxxx Orbison, tells his henchmen to kill the guy at the door who interrupted their scene, but Joe fights off the guards with great skill, which impresses Maxxx so much that he offers Joe the lead role in the movie he's making at the moment: Orgazmo, which is about a sex superhero who fights crime with his Orgazmorator and ChodaBoy, his sidekick. Joe, against his beliefs, takes the job so that he can pay for the wedding he plans for he and his fiancee, who he doesn't tell about his risque new acting job. However, when the movie becomes an amazing hit just about everywhere and he finds out that Ben (ChodaBoy) has created a real Orgazmorator, Joe is in some serious hot water!

BASQUIAT The Radiant Child

Centered on a rare interview that director and friend Tamra Davis shot with Basquiat over twenty years ago, this definitive documentary chronicles the meteoric rise and fall of the young artist. In the crime-ridden NYC of the 1970s, he covers the city with the graffiti tag SAMO. In 1981 he puts paint on canvas for the first time, and by 1983 he is an artist with “rock star status.” He achieves critical and commercial success, though he is constantly confronted by racism from his peers. In 1985 he and Andy Warhol become close friends and painting collaborators, but they part ways and Warhol dies suddenly in 1987. Basquiat’s heroin addiction worsens, and he dies of an overdose in 1988 at the age of 27. The artist was 25 years old at the height of his career, and today his canvases sell for more than a million dollars. With compassion and psychological insight, Tamra Davis details the mysteries that surround this charismatic young man, an artist of enormous talent whose fortunes mirrored the rollercoaster quality of the downtown scene he seemed to embody.

HITLER And THE OCCULT

The world knows how the Third Reich ended. Few know how it began. Mystics now forgotten by history conjured visions of a master race and foresaw peril from lesser races. Occult fanatics who rewrote history, and invented science. When Hitler seized power, the occult followed - right into his inner circle.

I found another description when digging net for subs. Here it is:
"How did Hitler decide he was a messiah and persuade a whole nation to follow him to damnation?

This is a subject that has been mined many times in fiction - Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Constantine, Hellboy, Bulletproof Monk and English horror writer James Herbert's book The Spear - as well as documentary.

Based on Ken Anderson's 1995 book of the same name, this aims to show how the Nazi party was originally made up of several occult groups that believed a messiah was on the way to save Germany. Adolf Hitler decided that he was that messiah and somehow persuaded a whole nation to follow him down the road to damnation. How did he do that? Were the reasons economic and social? Or, wait for it, supernatural? It's already well documented that he appropriated Christian symbols - the Spear of Destiny, which supposedly pierced Christ's side on the Cross, and the Holy Grail - for his own purposes. Ditto the swastika, which had religious significance for earlier cultures. And didn't he commit suicide on the night of April 30, also known as Walpurgis, the night of the witches in Germany? Spooky."

"Young Guns Go For It" is a BBC Four documentary series examining the musical icons of the 80s. This programme tells the story of Manchester's the Smiths, formed around the formidable songwriting talents of guitarist Johnny Marr and lyricist and singer Morrissey, who nurtured an often obsessive fanbase with their sensitive and introspective reaction to Thatcher's Britain. Featuring contributions from Johnny Marr, Mike Joyce and Andy Rourke.

HIGH TIMES

The Cannabis Cup was founded in 1988 by HIGH TIMES’ editor-in-chief Steven Hager to establish an international standard for cannabis seeds. He modeled it after the harvest festivals held in California in the 1970s, where growers would bring their finest buds and a winner would be judged. Held every November in Amsterdam, The Cannabis Cup is now a huge festival event, with flocks of pot connoisseurs arriving from around the world to sample "the kind". This 102 minute program combines documentary footage of the festival’s concerts and ceremonies with hilarious TV show parodies such as The Cannabis Castaways reality TV show--six heads stranded on an Amsterdam houseboat, The Grow Show with Kyle Kushman--cultivation tips from master growers, Wake and Bake with Jay--Good Morning Amsterdam, and The HighWitness News featuring Johnny Zero. Also included is close-up photography of the world’s best buds and of course the Cannabis Cup winners.

KURT AND COURTNEY

A first approach to the mysteries that surrounds the suicide of singer and composer Kurt Cobain in 1994, when he was only 27-years-old. Nick Broomfield, documentary maker from the BBC, makes a tour by the most representative places that witness the rise of the young musician, giving form to a small biopic as well, since his first years in the school in his native Seattle, showing interesting material such as rare recordings of his voice when he was 2-years-old, and the first concerts with his band, Nirvana, at small sceneries. Broomfield interviews important people in Kurt's life, such as his best friend, moving step by step to the bottom line, facing up to Courtney Love's father, who wrote a book who features the theory that Kurt was in fact murdered.

Leafing through the resumés in advance, his eye is caught by Yamazaki Asami, a striking young woman with ballet training. On the day of the audition, she's the last person they see. Aoyama is hooked. He notes her number from her file, calls her and takes her to dinner. He hesitates to call again, worried that he'll seem too eager. LUSH MTV'S

Lush video compilation. Includes live clips and a short interview with the band.
"Meshing dreamy, feedback-drenched guitars with airy, catchy melodies, Lush were one of the most prominent shoegazing bands of the early '90s. Led by guitarists Miki Berenyi and Emma Anderson, the British band earned a cult following within the British and American undergrounds with its first EPs, yet the group never quite attained the critical respect given to its peers My Bloody Valentine and Ride. Even so, Lush lasted longer than any other of their contemporaries (with the exception of the Boo Radleys), developing sharp pop skills as their career progressed. By the time of their final album, 1996's Lovelife, they had converted themselves into a power pop band with dream pop overtones, which resulted in the greatest chart success of their career. Their success was dealt a blow when drummer Chris Acland committed suicide in the fall of 1996, effectively bringing the band to an end." - allmusic

THUNDERCATS(COMPLETE SAGA)

The inhabitants of the planet Thundera evacuate just before it is destroyed. They were pursued by a band of mutants. All but one of their escape ships was destroyed. Only a small group of Thunderans (Thundercats) remained. With only half engine power, the group, which was led by Jaga, had to set a course for the nearest planet. Jaga commanded their ship while the other 7 were in their stasis tubes. Jaga died on their journey to Third Earth and their ship crashed there. Soon they made friends with various groups in the area and they designed a fortress. Mumm-Ra the centuries-old embodiment of evil, along with the mutants that destroyed the rest of the Thunderans are a constant threat. But Lion-O, the new leader of the Thundercats, with his weapon the “Sword of Omens” will help the Thundercats to have a standing chance.

GAS LAND

It is happening all across America-rural landowners wake up one day to find a lucrative offer from an energy company wanting to lease their property. Reason? The company hopes to tap into a reservoir dubbed the "Saudi Arabia of natural gas." Halliburton developed a way to get the gas out of the ground-a hydraulic drilling process called "fracking"-and suddenly America finds itself on the precipice of becoming an energy superpower.

AMERICAN HARDCORE

The history of hardcore punk--the tougher, faster, and more politically minded stepchild of the '70s punk movement that arose in the '80s--is examined in exuberant detail in Paul Rachman's documentary American Hardcore. Rachman's cameras careen across the landscape of the U.S. to trace the movement's beginnings in cities like Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and New York, and cherrypicks interviews with the musicians that helped shape its sound and impact, including Henry Rollins and Greg Ginn of Black Flag, H.R. (frontman for the highly influential, all-African American outfit Bad Brains), Ian MacKaye of Minor Threat (and now Fugazi), and many others. Hardcore's violent reaction against the Reagan administration and the complacent mindset of middle-class America is also detailed in countless performance footage clips and poster-art reproductions, which do much to dismiss the popular opinion of hardcore as nothing more than mindless hooliganism. Some fans may find the omission of certain bands a considerable oversight (San Francisco's lethally satirical Dead Kennedys are not mentioned only in passing), but for most punk devotees, American Hardcore will be vital and essential viewing. The DVD includes several deleted scenes and bonus performances, commentary by Rachman and writer Steven Blush (whose book of the same name provided the inspiration for the film), and a gallery of photos from photographer Edward Colver, who covered the hardcore scene in detail during its heyday. -- Paul Gaita

SUBURBIA

Filmaker Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise) explores the lives of young Americans at a crossroads in subUrbia, adapted by Eric Bogosian (Talk Radio) from his play. It rocks with soundtrack music by Sonic Youth, Beck, Skinny Puppy, Butthole Surfers, Elastica and more of today's edgiest alternative bands.
An ensemble cast featuring Parker Posey (Henry Fool), Steve Zahn (That Thing You Do!) and nicky Katt (One True Thing) stars in this engrossing story that opens during a typical night amongst friends who are stuck somewhere between high school and the rest of their lives.
The night doesn't stay typical for long. The arrival of a former classmate who is now a rock star sets passions and conflicts in motion. Before the night is over, friendships will be forged or shattered, romances will be won or lost, limits will be tested and futures will be shaped.

PISAY

Pisay relates the stories of eight Philippine Science High School (PSHS) students during the volatile 1980s when the Philippines was in its greatest moment in history – as the Marcos Dictatorship is ousted by the 1986 People Power Revolution to Cory Aquino’s New Government. It is the coming-of-age tale in a time filled with excitement, conflict and change.
Pisay revolves around the lives of Rom, son of a fi sh vendor and an overseas contract worker; Wena, daughter of the landowning Ledesmas; Mat, the pudgy, amorous provincial champion who has trouble in Math; friendly Minggoy, who always seems to get himself involved with everything; Liway, daughter of anti-dictatorship activists; Andy, the listless cadet military trainee; Daki, the science genius; and Euri, the boy with artistic flair trapped in a Science high school.
They were part of the top two hundred students from all over the Philippines who passed the examination for admission to PSHS, which was created for the purpose of giving an education enriched in the Sciences to exceptionally gifted Filipino children. “Pisay” is the nickname given by the students to their school; an abbreviation of Philippine Science or Phil Sci. Selected from the best and brightest from this poor country, they endure college-level courses in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. Their stories are woven around the four years of high school, and into the Science and Math courses they undergo – veritably the most advanced curriculum in the country at the time – and their relationships with each other, their teachers, and ultimately, the school and its social milieu.

THE BLOODY CHILD

Many movies exploit violence, but few honestly try to examine its effects and implications. One of those few is Nina Menkes’ “The Bloody Child,” a genuinely experimental and visionary independent American film opening for a one-week run at Facets Multimedia.

The intensely dreamlike qualities of “The Bloody Child” are, almost paradoxically heightened by the movie’s use of extreme naturalism and near documentary methods. Except for star Tinka Menkes, the cast consists of actual Marines, who helped write the dialogue. And all of this was shot in images of rare austerity and vividness, both in the Mojave Desert and North Africa, by Menkes, who operates her own camera. Strange as much of “The Bloody Child” may seem--especially to audiences who wander in without knowing what to expect--Menkes’ images always grip and disturb. She leaves us with a shivery vision of America as a desert of violence haunted by the spirits of the dead.

NO SKIN OF MY ASS

join file using hjsplit software or any joining software you have

NSOMA is a gay remake of Robert Altman's That Cold Day In The Park. Director Bruce LaBruce plays the Karen Carpenter-loving hairstylist who is helplessly attracted to the lonely and stoic skinhead he finds and invites to his home. So goes the plot of No Skin off My Ass, the raunchy debut film by new queer-cinema enfant terrible Bruce LaBruce, full of his mix of radical politics, wry humor, and hot, gay sex between nonprofessional actors. This very sexually explicit comedy is really for anyone - male or female, straight or not - who is a bit curious and wants to see a movie that offers something... a little different.
Heralding the 90’s wave of the “New Queer Cinema”, No Skin Off My Ass is a raw and decidedly D.I.Y. exercise in gay porn as art house cinema. Shot in grainy black & white 8mm with a focus on a handsome, young skinhead, No Skin Off My Ass serves as something of a contemporary counterpoint to James Bidgood's Pink Narcissus in its glorification of male beauty. Unavailable on DVD in the U.S.
No Skin Off My Ass played film festivals around the world and quickly became a cult film. Famously, Kurt Cobain declared it his favourite film. In 2005 , Gus Van Sant, the director of Last Days, a fictionalized account of Cobain's last days, told Planet Out magazine, "He did this interview after he had just seen No Skin Off My Ass by Bruce LaBruce and he said that was his favorite movie."

TRANCE / TRANSE

substitles

For as long as anyone can remember, people have travelled in every direction. Most cannot travel on luxury yachts or jets, and some would call it a luxury to travel by car. They simply have to travel on foot or in rickety boats, taking hope as their only possession, armed with one ambition: to find a better life. The journey is never easy, and is rife with dangers and obstacles to overcome - and sometimes they lose everything along the way.
Transe, the hard-hitting release from Portuguese director Teresa Villaverde, 40, (The Mutants, 1998), paints an uncomfortable picture of the European continent. It is a land of misery and exploitation for many who try to cross her.
Acclaimed at the International Film Festival of Catalonia and in Cannes 2006, Trance tells the harrowing story of Sonia (in a notable performance by Ana Moreira). This young woman leaves St. Petersburg behind in search of a better life. We never learn much about her background, but go forward with her as she embarks on a journey to Portugal. Circumstances along the way shape her destiny and make her experience truly torturous.

GUMMO

Constructing this film through random scenes, director Harmony Korine abruptly jettisoned any sort of narrative plot, so here we go: Solomon and Tummler are two bored teenage boys who live in Xenia, Ohio. A few years ago, a tornado swept through it, destroying more than half the town and killing the same amount, including Solomon's father. The film, from there, chronicles the anti-social adventures these two boys have. These include sniffing glue, killing cats, having sex, riding dirtbikes, listening to black metal, and meeting a cavalcade of quirky, bizarre, and scary people. These include a man who pimps his mentally ill wife to our anti-heroes, three sisters who play with their cat and practice becoming strippers, a black midget fending off the sexual advances of a troubled man (played by the director Harmony Korine), a 12-year-old gay transvestite who is also a cat killer, Solomon's mother who seems to be the only glimpse of sanity, two foul-mouthed six-year olds, and most importantly, a nymphlike skateboarder who walks around town wearing pink rabbit ears.

LAST DAYS

Introspective artist Blake is buckling under the weight of fame, professional obligations and a mounting feeling of isolation. Dwarfed by towering trees, Blake slowly makes his way through dense woods. He scrambles down an embankment to a fresh spring and undresses for a short swim. The next morning he returns to his house, an elegant, if neglected, stone mansion. Many people are looking for Blake--his friends, his managers and record label, even a private detective--but he does not want to be found. In the haze of his final hours, Blake will spend most his time by himself. He avoids the people who are living in his house, who approach him only when they want something, be it money or help with a song. He hides from one concerned friend and turns away another. He visits politely with a stranger from the Yellow Pages sales department, and he ducks into an underground rock club. He wanders through the woods and he plays a new song, one last rock and roll blowout. Finally, alone in the greenhouse, Blake will look and listen--and seek release.

JULIEN DONKEY-BOY

"O, mio babbino caro" plays as a woman skates gracefully. In contrast, little is graceful and daddy is not dear in Julien's world. His father listens to blues wearing a gas mask; dad prods, lectures, and derides Julien as well as Julien's brother and pregnant sister, while grandma attends to her dog. Julien is different, schizophrenic. He wears gold teeth. He bowls, sings, worships, and chats with a group of young adults with disabilities. His sister's child is probably his own. He talks on the phone, imagining it's his mother, who died in childbirth years before. He may be a murderer of children. From his point of view (perhaps), the film follows this odd family for a few weeks.

MISTER LONELY

Asked by THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER to provide a synopsis for the film in an interview published May 22, 2007, Korine answered:
"In broad terms, it's a movie about a Michael Jackson impersonator living in Paris who's down on his luck. He meets a Marilyn Monroe impersonator at a commune where all these other impersonators live. They want to put on a show in hopes that the world will come see them perform. She convinces him to go to this place and things happen. At the same time, there's a story about nuns jumping out of airplanes.

Instead of adhering to the norms of their South Central neighborhood, a group of skater boys opt to bus into Hollywood and Beverly Hills, where they attract local rich girls - and plenty of trouble with the police, jealous boyfriends, and nervous parents.
Larry Clark is an intelligent film maker. There is no doubt about it. With "What's up rockers",he has given a human face to his film making career. Before this particular film most of his films were based on his personal experiences on dangerous psychology of young kids phenomenon. One thing which his fans and their parents will like is that compared to "Kenpark" there is much less controversial matter or rather nothing objectionable at all. This film does not preach but in an unofficial manner it has been successful in delivering its message of trust, peace, respect and brotherhood.A good aspect is that all the events of this film are in accordance with its pace whether they might be comical, sad ,hilarious or bizarre. One may also be tempted to rename it as "a day long road movie about Latino kids".This is only partially true as all communities made their presence felt.If exploration of young teenage minds is your favorite field of study, this is the film which you need at the earliest.

Kids follows a group young, unsupervised, not mature, but all-too-grown-up kids in New York. One girl has just been diagnosed with HIV and is trying to notify the boy who gave it to her, who is on a quest to sexually prey upon innocent girls. The film follows these characters and their friends through the day, hanging out, playing, carousing, and going to parties. Each scene is intriguing and disturbing -- conveying an urban reality that includes drugs, sex, guns, and disease; and yet never letting you forget these are *kids*, some of them barely in puberty

ICHI THE KILLER(ANIME XTREME)

A world-exclusive animé companion to the infamous hyper-violent Japanese psychological thriller "Ichi The Killer", this animated feature, penned by original series creator Hideo Yamamoto, is significantly more shocking and controversial than its live-action counterpart. Shamelessly underpinned with glorious blood-splattered battles and sadistic sexual debauchery, the "fun for all the family" ethos has been emphatically "thrown out the window" to make way for a disturbing, visceral and often savage kaleidoscope of rampant comic book violence.
Tracing the genesis of Ichi's inner rage and detailing the previously untouched history of his schooldays and interaction with his parents, this joyfully excessive animé provides a unique insight into the main themes of the live-action adventure, in much the same way as "The Animatrix" illuminated the origins of the much-celebrated "Matrix" trilogy.
Fans will delight in the fact that Takashi Miike, the director of "Ichi The Killer" (live action) and "Audition", provides the voice for the pivotal character of Kakihara.

ICHI

Hideo Yamamoto created that manga that served as the basis for Takashi Miike’s excellent mindfuck Yakuza-horror hybrid, Ichi The Killer. The success of Ichi The Killer lead to two prequels of sorts – Ichi: Episode Zero, a muddled and complicated introduction to the character in animé form that did a middling job of filling in the many blanks left in Miike’s film; and 1-Ichi, a straight to video live action prequel directed by regular Miike collaborator Masato Tanno that is pretty successful in following up Miike’s ambitious effort. If it all sounds rather complicated and incestuous, it is, but it’s a story worth paying attention to as once you can get it all sorted out in your head, it’s pretty cool stuff.
While the Yakuza element took Ichi the Killer to a different and more cerebral level, in that it dealt with Miike’s obsession with loyalty amongst the criminal element, 1-Ichi is a straight for the throat film that doesn’t try to be anything it’s not – this is straight up, pissed off anger, and it’s delightfully entertaining. The black comedy works, the characterizations work, and for a film that was shot fast and cheap on digital video for the Japanese V-Cinema market, the production values are quite good as well.

IMPRINTS / EMPREINTES

http://rapidshare.com/files/367188020/Imprints.rar

Jacques Drouin’s career is linked to one of the rarest of animation techniques: the pinscreen. Since few films have been made using this device, it is difficult to compare his work with that of other animators. His films follow the tradition established by Alexandre Alexeïeff (1901-1982) and Claire Parker (1906-1981), who pioneered the technique. Although their influence on Jacques Drouin’s films is obvious, he developed his own style by exploring the pinscreen’s potential.

Imprints (2004) could be considered as Drouin’s return to his roots, and indeed, the film makes us think immediately of Mindscape. Built around a sequence of transformations, the film shows the relationship between an artist and his creation, the difference being that Drouin takes the place of the painter and the pinscreen replaces the painting. The camera closes in on the surface and even ventures behind it to clearly reveal its material aspect (the metal of the pins and the bas-relief they form). Intense and poignant, Imprints is the filmmaker’s declaration of love for the pinscreen—an instrument that has been such an important part of his life.

2012 SCIENCE OR SUPERSTITION

December 21, 2012: the end date of the sophisticated Long Count Calendar created by the ancient Maya in central America. Countless books and websites, magazine articles and newspaper headlines debate its meaning, with enthusiasts in two camps: those forecasting apocalypse the end of time and those who see a coming renewal, a rebirth of consciousness. Adding fuel to the debate, some scientists see the increasing number of natural disasters in recent years as evidence of a catastrophic climax of events in 2012. How much of what we're hearing is science and how much is superstition? In this film the leading researchers, writers and scientists in the field tell us exactly what this date means to them, why it's important, and what we

All three PUSHER films display Refn effortlessly blending moody atmospherics and frenetic action, portraying his characters with a depth and confidence belying his years. Though each film can be appreciated independently of the other two, Refn subtly interweaves these three tales so that a minor character in one film moves to the fore to become the central character of the next. The resulting trilogy stands as a masterful reinvention of international crime cinema, as poignantly human as it is brutally and viscerally realized. The PUSHER trilogy reveals the humanity in even the most violent criminals and how every pusher—no matter what his status—is only one bad deal away from total ruin.
PUSHER is the story of Frank, a small-time drug dealer who is about to experience the worst week of his life. After a complicated heroin deal goes wrong and he loses both the money and the merchandise, Frank finds himself massively in debt to the Balkan drug baron Milo. The squeeze is on and as the week passes the pressure mounts, with Frank trying to repay the money in the face of Milo’s increasing frustration and his own latent self-destructiveness. Come Friday, Saturday might never happen. As Frank launches one last desperate push to raise the missing funds, it appears less and less likely he will manage to emerge from this hellish week unscathed…

CAPTURED BEAUTY

Decried by the porn crowd for eliding generic standards like money shots and close-ups of penetration, director Andrew Blake came into his own (no pun intended) and developed his highly distinctive brand of art-porn with this, the first film produced under the aegis of his own company, Studio A Entertainment (which has remained almost entirely devoted to releasing his films until finally allowing a very different presence, that of photographer Roy Stuart).
What would soon become de riguer in his films is nearly all here: model-gorgeous ladies engaged in light S&M, in a variety of elaborate fetish outfits, backed by trancy techno music.
Appreciated by critics for his artistry (and much-awarded), Blake's audience nonetheless remains outside of his home country, principally Europe (where he is deservedly viewed a serious artist of erotica). Imitators have come and gone through the years, mistaking his art for superficial artifice.
He began walking on the path of porn shooting video for Penthouse and Playboy (under what I assume is his real name, Paul Nevitt), finally going hardcore with such classics as Night Trips and Hidden Obsessions, honing his aesthetic.
With Captured Beauty, that aesthetic goes fully into flower, not least because he found his muse in the stunning Dahlia Grey. She subsequently starred in dozens of films over the course of the ensuing decade, glacially perfect as a mannequin in signature shots such as ladies grouped in tableaux, then melting into lips and slow-moving hands and more in close-up, all the while forbidding simple audience identification by peering directly into the camera (not unlike a very different contemporaneous porn artist, Gregory Dark).

DEGENERATE ART

This is a superb presentation of one of the lesser known aspects of the Third Reich. The Block Buster Degenerate Art Show in Germany, 1936, is detailed with actual footage from the original show along with excellent footage from the recent hanging of all the surviving work from that show back in Berlin. The documentary very effectivly details the history of the German Expressionists and Hitler's collision course with their work and it puts the work into the perspective of Hitler's "House of German Art," the invasion of Poland, and most importantly the liberation of the camps and the burial of the typhoid dead. Its presentation of book burning in Nazi Germany and the connection to the burning of people is profound.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KRYPTON IS DEAD

This work should not be viewed by individuals with epilepsy or seizure disorders.

This work is derived from one of Jacobs' Nervous Magic Lantern performances, which are created with a hand-manipulated projector and use neither film nor video. Highly stroboscopic and hallucinatory, these kinetic performances result in otherworldly spaces and plays of near-abstraction and suggestive imagery. In Krypton is Doomed, the audio accompaniment to the shifting visuals is an installment of a Superman radio play — the first ever broadcast, in 1940. This work highlights Jacobs' relentless experimentation with the very fabric of projected light.
Writes Jacobs: "In his 5th floor walk-up on NY's pre-fashionable Lower East Side, Jack Smith was determined to complete the beautification of his kitchen cabinet. AIDS was pressing. His friends pitched in, accepting slave status. Jack demanded this and Jack demanded that but because he wanted it perfect (as he had wanted his films to be perfect), and because perfection proved elusive, the remodeling finally had to be abandoned. Each friend going her or his own sad way.
We are living under the imminent threat of GODS. The Republican Party ploy of allying with the religious right for votes proved shortsighted (grasping individuals tend to be shortsighted) and our religious crazies are now frustrated, concerned they might be cheated of prophetic fulfillment. You've got to hand it to those who resist, for the sake of the grass and the animals and the children, and for the preservation of the occasional work of art among the Faberge egg; who knows but that they will succeed against all odds and swerve their respective societies in time away from sure doom. We like to think so and it's easy to, after a lot of movies and the fact that all the living are beneficiaries of the ones who made it through, all those Papas and especially Mamas that did succeed in sending forward their young.
In the late 1930's two Jewish teenagers came up with the story of a couple that sent their infant child on a lone trip of escape through space from an exploding planet. We all know the story: the boy would survive on Earth but would have to keep his identity secret. Were Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel dreaming out loud? Was Krypton actually the Old World heading into WW 2 and was the child—with his secret identity— escaping the fate of the Jews of Europe? (Put aside for a moment your stress regarding Israel, intended as a refuge from genocide.) The Jews then, all of us now.
Jack's friends failed to convince him to make a will. 'Why bother?,' he asked. 'To protect your work in the future.' 'The future?,' Jack replied. 'The future will be worse.'"

SHALLOW GRAVE

Movie starts when three people living together in a four bedroom flat are looking for a house mate. The interviews they conduct are very unorthodox and very funny. Eventually the three agree on one prospective tenant. He moves in, locks his door, and is not seen again. After a couple of days the three become curious and break in to his room. What follows is an amazing piece of cinema and to say more would ruin it.

THE ACID HOUSE

Three twisted tales from the seamy side of Scotland and the mind of Irvine Welsh.
1) The Granton Star Cause:
In the same day a young Leith lad is dumped by his football team, his girlfriend and his parents, arrested and beaten up by the police and turned into a fly by God, whom he meets in a pub.
2) The Soft Touch:
A man is too soft to do anything when his wife moves in with the thug upstairs.
3) The Acid House:
While tripping on acid, CoCo Brown is struck by lightning, causing him to switch bodies with a newborn baby.

SANTA SANGRE

A young man is confined in a mental hospital. Through a flashback we see that he was traumatized as a child, when he and his family were circus performers: he saw his father cut off the arms of his mother, a religious fanatic and leader of the heretical church of Santa Sangre ("Holy Blood"), and then commit suicide. Back in the present, he escapes and rejoins his surviving and armless mother. Against his will, he "becomes her arms" and the two undertake a grisly campaign of murder and revenge.

THE JODOROWSKY CONSTELLATION

This is a fascinating documentary about the Chilean writer, director, artist Alexandro Jodorowsky. The interviewer Louis Mouchet asks Jodorowsky a potpourri of questions about his films, philosophy, art, and his opinion and feelings on a host of subjects. Mouchet begins the interview with the simple, but spellbinding, inquisition: "who are you?", to which Jodorowsky replies with a tale of the Emperor of China. He states that when we can define ourselves we cease to be. He shares with us his thoughts and definitions of his lifelong quest for knowledge and the unknown, and his exploits into the Panic Movement in France, and his drawings and art and how he avoided the lynching by the audience at the premiere of Fando and Lis. There are also interviews with his associates Fernando Arrabal, Marcel Marceau, Jean Giraud and the musician Peter Gabriel. We also learn of his plans of the project of Dune, which fell through and was later made by David Lynch. There is also an interesting and amusing look at Jodorowsky as an orator in a class of students, in which Mouchet is invited to join in. It is a fascinating and enlightening look at the life and works of this creative and artistic guru.

Stomping, whomping, stealing, singing, tap-dancing, violating, Derby-topped teddy-boy hooligan Alex (Malcolm McDowell) has his own way of having a good time. He has it at the tragic expense of others. Alex's journey from amoral punk to brainwashed proper citizen forms the dynamic arc of Stanley Kubrick's future-shook vision of Anthony Burgess's novel. Unforgettable images, startling musical counterpoints, the fascinating language used by Alex and his pals - Kubrick shapes them into a shattering whole. Hugely controversial when first released, A Clockwork Orange won the New York Film Critics Best Picture and Director honors and earned four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. The power of its art is such that it still entices, shocks, and holds us in its grasp.

NO AGE, NEW YORK

This rough-guide to the New York scene of the 1980's is a whirlwind tour of the city's film and video 'underground' that doubles up as a walk-on-the-wild-side of the modern imagination. Mixing interviews with underground alumni Beth B, Nick Zedd, Henry Rollins, Lydia Lunch and Richard Kern alongside clips of their controversial, confrontational works. No Age... junks standard documentary structure in favour of a scattershot fanzine-type approach that vividly captures the scene of the period and the energy and attitude behind it. COLLECTORS

COLLECTORS focuses on two of the country's premier serial killer enthusiasts. Rick Staton, a funeral director in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has started many serial killers painting; he was the exclusive dealer of America's most notorious serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Staton's extensive collection includes art and artifacts from such notable serial killers as Charles Manson, Richard Ramirez and Henry Lee Lucas. Tobias Allen, also a collector, attained national exposure for creating a controversial serial killer board game, later banned in Canada. Together, Staton and Allen have curated several gallery shows of serial killer art work. COLLECTORS follows Staton and Allen on a road trip to Houston, Texas for the opening night of an art show by Elmer Wayne Henley, Houston's most notorious serial killer. In the early 1970's, Henley and partner in crime Dean Corll, carried out the sex murders of 27 children. Now serving multiple life sentences, Henley was encouraged to take up painting by Staton. COLLECTORS provides a rare interview with Henley. A major news event, the art show provoked protests from victim's friends and families. COLLECTORS documents the actions both the protesters and the buyers. Staton and Allen also visit the original crime scenes and spend time with Henley's mother. COLLECTORS elicits commentary from visionary artist and serial killer art collector Joe Coleman, who has been called "America's premier portrait artitist of sociopathic murderers" and '"the only major artist to receive a ringing endorsement from Charles Manson." Harold Schechter, a leading true crime writer and author of Deviant and The A to Z Encyclopedia of Serial Killers, provides a road map to the psychic bond between the serial killer and the collector. COLLECTORS is a unforgettable documentary experience.

MANA BEYOND BELIEF

There's a long history of films that involve just toting a camera around the world and seeing what develops -- from the comically lurid '60s "Mondo" films to artfilms like Gambling, Gods And LSD that invariably trace the meaning of life to India.
Mana: Beyond Belief -- a U.S./ Dutch/German/French co-production from American filmmakers Peter Friedman and Roger Manley -- seems to serve notice that it will follow in the steps of the latter with its opening lecture from a Maori tribesman on the subject of "mana."
Mana turns out to be a kind of universal energy shared by objects, animals and people (and entirely based in our belief on the power of the object). It's clear we're to embark on a quest for mana, but it's worth noting that the Maori grins mischievously during his spiel, suggesting the whole concept has an element of humour. It all seems to be a rationalization for a plain and simple absurdist's-eye-view of the world.
But who really needs an intellectual underpinning for footage of Japanese businessmen getting wasted on sake at a Cherry Blossom festival? Or of a Hindu making "offerings" to Ganesha on a website by dragging icons of food. Or of extreme personalities on display at an Elvis convention in Memphis, or of a nutcase who's invented a giant electric generator to transport people on beams of magnetic energy? That stuff's just funny all on its own.
There's a scene of celebrants at a Mass in the presence of the shroud of Turin that even this cynic found moving. And I found myself feeling sorry for a painting called the Golden Helmet, a supposed work of Rembrandt so famous that it was called "the male Mona Lisa." Until it was revealed as a fake. Now it sits, forlorn and ignored in a corner of a German gallery. Even the curators who blew the whistle on it seem regretful.

The same day an unusual group of John's and Yoko's friends, including Ringo Starr, Allen Ginsberg and many others gathered to celebrate John's birthday. This film is Jonas Mekas' visual record of that event.
There are other images that are included in the film that develops like a "music video":
the John & Yoko party at Klein's,June 12, 1971; August 1972 at the Madison Square Garden; the Central Park Vigil on the day Lennon was shot; and some other rare footage taken on different occasions of John and Yoko.
The soundtrack consists of a series of improvised songs, sung by Lennon, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, and their friends and of Lennon's comments on his own film-making.

BRIAN ENO IMAGENARY LANDSCAPES

maginary Landscapes is a profile of a modern artist at the
cutting edge of technological change and popular taste.
It brings into an intensely personal focus Brain Eno's
seemingly disparate work in sound, vision and light, and explores his
music in visual terms, based on landscapes and images that have shaped
his life as an artist.
A founding member of Roxy Music, Brain Eno is
well-known for solo albums and collaborations with artists like David
Bowie, Robert Fripp, and David Byrne. He has produced albums for some
of the most influential musicians of the seventies and eighties,
including U2's highly acclaimed 'Joshua Tree'. He has since gone on to
new work as a composer, video artist and creator of sculptural light
installations. Eno discusses the central concerns and problems of his
work, and reflects on the conformist demands on an evolving artist.
Being a pop star, composer of electronic music, video artist and sculptor
proved too much for the British artistic establishment. But his
chameleon-like qualities were recognized as innovate in America. Eno
remains a quiet revolutionary as he continues to develop his extremely
personal aesthetic of sound and vision.

GLUE

subtitles

In his first feature, Alexis Dos Santos perfectly renders a portrait of the inner lives of teenagers: a tangle of passions, disappointments, thrills and dreams. Glue introduces us to three young friends experiencing this trance of youth together. Fifteen-year-old Lucas is a small-town Argentine boy. Growing up in a tempestuous environment with a cheating father and a weak-willed mother, Lucas sets his sights beyond these disappointing adult realities and fills his time hanging out with his friend Nacho, blissing out to alternative music and singing in a garage band (with Nacho on drums). In secret, he also observes his body and his burgeoning sexual desires with wide-eyed wonder. When Nacho and Lucas befriend local girl Andrea, the three disaffected teens hit it off, and their inner lives and fantasies intertwine like a serpentine dance.
Dos Santos captures the quivering mass of angst and excitement that makes up a typical teenager’s day, in which attention can be suddenly riveted and just as quickly led astray by any attraction, thought or rock anthem. Super-8 solo sequences of each character evoke inner moments, while their ultimate sexual explorations are achieved with a tenderness and humor that suggest a similar dream state.

ZAPPA

A minor masterpiece... Zappa takes place in Denmark 1961 and introduces us to Bjorn, a typical 16-year-old with raging hormones and his friend Steen, leader of their clubhouse "gang," and a bully whose bad influence will lead, ultimately, to Bjorn's violent act of defiance.
Bjorn is in love with a local girl, and after a night out in the barn with her, his horniness leads him into a very funny situation.
Bjorn's other good friend is Mulle, a cheerful and more childish working-class boy, and as Steen, frustrated over his loveless home life, focuses on Mulle, Bjorn must take steps to fix an injustice that has pulled them apart.
A really great film and highly recommended!

ANDY WARHOL A DOCUMENTARY

Ric Burns' Andy Warhol is a two part, four-hour pop-culture extravaganza that will retool what you think you know about the famed and oft-parodied soup-can painter. Delving deep into Andy's impoverished upbringing in Pittsburgh, the greatest success of Burns' film is its ability to delve deep behind the façade of Andy Warhol, Pop Celebrity. Featuring interviews with an array of confidants from art dealers to artists (but, alas, no Lou Reed), Burns' film portrays an extremely insecure man who lived with his mother through much of the Factory years and constantly seeked a measure of fame akin to the Hollywood starlets whose photographs he tore out of the pages of Depression-era movie mags. Andy Warhol succeeded in achieving that fame, and along the way redefined how we think of art and culture. This film may very well redefine what you think of the man.

ISKWATERPANGK

Squatterpunk tackles the life of youth in poor urban communities living the punk lifestyle. The film is set in the slums of Manila where law enforcement is rare. Shot in black-and-white to the relentless punk rock energy of ’80s Filipino punk icon Bobby Balingit (The Wuds) and the postmodern art-punk heroes The Brockas, the camera follows the lives of the youth as they scavenge for a living while still managing to play around. Images of riot and poverty are set against the background of a loud musical score that makes the film wild, pulsating and certainly punk, while casting a tenderly poetic eye on its subjects.

 "WHAT HAPPENED AFTER 1986?"
20 YEARS. 20 FILMS. 20 FILMMAKERS. 1 NATION.
IMAHE NASYON... a groundbreaking, conceptual omnibus film by 20 alternative filmmakers who were tasked to present their personal visions on national issues. It is underlined by a conceptual question asked by line producers Jon Red & Carol Bunuan-Red:"How do you see the past 20 years?"
In 2006, IMAHE NASYON attempts to answer the question. That question also became a thematic and uniting thread across the films, but each film is made of different cinematic genres that is
representative of the filmmaker's style, stressing the concept that in spite of individual visions we share the same goal: to depict a truthful image of the nation.
The omnibus project was conceptualized by Jon and Carol in commemoration of Edsa 1, a political revolution that changed their generation forever. It is also a celebration of the struggle and
growth of Philippine Independent Cinema which, in essence, is a cultural revolution only now gaining public acceptance.
A unique and common element in IMAHE NASYON is rising Indie actor PING MEDINA who is featured in all the 20 films. He represents the next generation who will play a crucial role in the direction of the nation and its image.
Imahe Nasyon was directed by Poklong Anading, Emman Dela Cruz, Yeye Calderon, Neil Daza, Lav Diaz, Tad Ermitaño, Mes de Guzman, Rox Lee,Topel Lee, Milo Paz, Robert Quebral, Ellen Ramos, Raymond Red, R.A.Rivera, Lyle Sacris, EJ Salcedo, Sig Sanchez, Dennis Empalmado, Ogi Sugatan, Paolo Villaluna

ISANG ANG LALAKING MAY MUMURAHING CAMERA / A MAN WITH A CHEAP CAMERA

I liked the poetic sensibility of Man with a Cheap Camera, a movie really about nothing (Jonas Mekas)
This is my fourth short film (and hopefully not the last), but the first one to be uploaded for Surreal Moviez.
Shot with a China-made all-in-one multimedia player (mp3, mp4 player with camera), with shots mostly from my trips. The background music was poorly recorded by me.. You could hear other sounds other than my guitar.
As a starting "film-maker", I still have a lot to learn, but I hope by posting this, people here, especially those who had already made films, would help me improve with this path that I wanted to cross.
Please let me know what you think about this. Thank you.

Z CHANNEL A MAGNIFICIENT OBSESSION

The Z Channel wasn't America's first premium cable outlet specializing in feature films, and it wasn't the most commercially successful, but few, if any, had as strong an impact on the film industry or a more influential list of customers. Based in California and blanketing sections of the state dominated by the movie business, Z Channel had been operating for several years before former screenwriter Jerry Harvey took over as head of programming in 1980. Under the guidance of Harvey and his staff, the channel became a film buff's dream, screening rare classics, important foreign films, and maverick American titles that had fallen through the cracks of commercial distribution. Harvey and his staff also programmed original and uncut versions of films which had only played American theaters in altered form (including Heaven's Gate, Once Upon a Time in America, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, and The Leopard) long before the concept of the "director's cut" had currency beyond the most hardcore of film fans. And The Z Channel aggressively championed pictures they believed were overlooked, and programmed deserving Oscar-nominated movies during the Academy's voting period, years before studios began distributing video "screeners" to potential voters. (More than one industry expert has credited Z Channel's showings of Annie Hall as a key factor in the film winning Best Picture.) But Jerry Harvey was also a deeply troubled man, and when legal and economic problems began dogging the company in the late '80s, he snapped, leading to a horrible and tragic murder and suicide. The Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession is a documentary that looks at the channel's short but remarkable history as well as Harvey's damaged personal life. It includes interviews with Robert Altman, Quentin Tarantino, James Woods, Jim Jarmusch, Alexander Payne and a number of other filmmakers and critics who attest to Z Channel's lasting impact

THE CUTTING EDGE THE MAGIC OF MOVIE EDITING

The Cutting Edge: The Magic of Editing teaches the viewer how editors compile strips of film in order to create memorable moviegoing experiences. In addition to interviews with a variety of respected and award-winning editors, the movie offers clips form some of the most memorable films in the history of the artform.
This documentary is seriously odd (More on that below). It's a study of the power of film-editing. None of the information these subjects share is offensive, in fact it's all pretty interesting. Some terrific examples include the dumping of two entire reels from the climax of Lenny with one edit. Snipping five short vignettes from a longer Martin Sheen improvisation in Apocalypse Now. And a love scene assembled very cleverly in Out of Sight (Never heard of it myself) via moving the audio track around, short frame delays and non-linear time sequencing.
A personal problem I have with this, is that director Wendy Apple shows you the inventor of a basic editing technique; and then (nine times out of ten) cuts to some loud, superficial action/effects movie that uses it. More than a few times, a technique that would be much better highlighted in a well-chosen clip where the edit can be studied almost in isolation, is instead buried under explosions, green screen razzle-dazzle, car-chases and gratuitous knife.gun.martial arts battles, where a fraction of the impact can be credited to the edit.
The larger problem is that this approach continually results in Eisentein, Reifenstahl, Griffith clips sitting in close proximity to, and introducing things like Terminator 2, Scream, Gladiator, Titanic, Top Gun, The Matrix, Star Wars. !??! Equating originators who believed in what they were doing to the depths of their soul (and devised these techniques themselves), with modern filmmakers who frequently just want to increase viewer stimulation to increase their payday with a tried and true technique, is obtuse if not completely grotesque. Jumping from the ingenuity of a filmmaker devising an editing trick to rally people to a political viewpoint, to popcorn movies about surface stimulation and box office receipts is so reductivist as to be offensive. Which is I suppose a back-handed tribute to the meaning that editing can cause. This may be appropriate in one case; as when WW2 propaganda films are used to introduce Starship Troopers, because it's director (Verhoeven) is knowingly riffing on propaganda. But I was not watching this thinking "Thank God Eisenstein invented X so that it could be used in Basic Instinct." Instead, I frequently had a pained expression on my face.
One can imagine this dilemma arose out of the need to cut to living, breathing editors who pick up the story, but it imposes some real arrogance on those involved. It almost never chooses to cut to calm, modern art films by thoughtful directors where the spare use of gimmickry allows you to appreciate what the editing tool actually does. In doing so it jumps almost completely over the middle years (60s-70s) where an astonishing burst of rebellion and experimentation occurred, from a second wave of originators. Tarkovsky, Antonioni, Kubrick, Resnais, Truffaut, Polanski..? All missing, to make room for people like Joe Dante and James Cameron.

Julien Temple whittled down 54,000 minutes of home-movie footage to create the ultimate Glastonbury movie. You can practically taste the mud.
Slosh, slosh, slosh is the melody. It is not Radiohead, or the Levellers, or even Toots and the Maytals who open Julien Temple's epic new film about the Glastonbury festival, but the sound of walking through liquid mud. Or excrement. Glastonbury, the movie, starts as it means to go on, suffused in the real experiences of ordinary festivalgoers. As Michael Eavis, the farmer who founded and still runs the bewilderingly vast, weird, pungent, musical gathering in the Vale of Avalon, remarks: "It's not real is it? It can't be real can it?"
Previous attempts to capture the craziness of the festival have fallen flat, perhaps because Glastonbury is all so unreal. This time, Temple, who made the classic Sex Pistol films The Great Rock'n'Roll Swindle and The Filth and the Fury, issued plea after plea for amateur videos taken by punters at the festival. Deluged with 54,000 minutes of footage, he whittled it down to 128 that knit together an uncompromising tale of Glastonbury that comes as close to touching, hearing and feeling it as possible. It's accompanied by plenty of Temple's own camerawork, and BBC coverage of legendary performances (from the Chemical Brothers to Coldplay and Morrissey to the English National Opera). But the real stars are the tribes of festivalgoers - travellers, entertainers, drunkards, revellers, lads, girls, goths and trendies: everyone who picked up a video camera when they shouldn't.

ASTIG

part1-8

ASTIG (Mga Batang Kalye), written by multi-awarded writer Jerry B. Gracio, produced by Noel Ferrer and directed by GB Sampedro is an episodic tale of four young men whose stories parallel and contrast with the landmarks and various images of Manila. It tells the story of Ariel, a conman who has to leave his girlfriend upon learning that she is in love with him; Boy, an expectant young father who has to sell his body to pay his wife’s hospital bill; Ronald, a Chinese mestizo who is coming to grips with his identity; and Baste, an overly protective son of an OFW who has to avenge his sister. The film tells the stories of the tough guys of Manila and their resolve to survive the dirt and filth of the “Distinguished and Ever Loyal City.”

RESERVOIR OF DOGS

Six criminals, who are strangers to each other, are hired by a crime boss Joe Cabot to carry out a diamond robbery. Right at the outset, they are given false names with an intention that they won't get too close and concentrate on the job instead. They are completely sure that the robbery is going to be a success. But when the police show up right at the time and the site of the robbery, panic spreads amongst the group members and one of them is killed in the subsequent shootout along with a few policemen and civilians. When the remaining people assemble at the premeditated rendezvous point (a warehouse), they begin to suspect that one of them is an undercover cop.

MY BESTFRIEND'S B-DAY

The film was completed, but the final reel was destroyed in a lab fire that broke out during editing. The surviving part of the film was shown in part to a small crowd in early 1987.
Later became the basis for True Romance (1993)
Actor Allen Garfield was teaching Quentin Tarantino acting at the time, and that is how he also became involved in the project. Filmed over three years, from 1984-1987.

STORY OF A JUNKIE / GRINGO

Story of a Junkie is a 1987 drama film directed by Lech Kowalski and starring John Spaceley. Distributed by Troma Entertainment. Filmed in documentary-style, the film follows the character of Gringo, a young man looking for fortune in New York, only to fall into heroin addiction.
The movie has amassed quite a reputation in certain circles for its depictions of hard drug usage in New York City's East Village area. Many of the cast members, including leading man John Spaceley, are actual junkies. The numerous shooting-up sequences are reportedly entirely real, as are many of the drug dens and their denizens. Perhaps even more notable than the cinema verite structure is the almost total lack of moralizing on the part of the producers or its characters.
Lead actor Spaceley died in the early 1990s, reportedly from AIDS, which he contracted through intravenous drug use. His final moments are chronicled in yet another Lech Kowalski film, "Born to Lose: The Last Rock & Roll Movie", a documentary about deceased former New York Dolls guitarist Johnny Thunders.
Troma Entertainment hails Story of a Junkie as one of the company's best films; it's one of the most well-known outside of the films directed by Troma founders Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz.
